How is your invisible load?

You may have read the Dr Libby Book – The Invisible Load. If not then the subject of this blog is specifically about that same principle or a slice of it at the very least. The book talks about an accumulating stress load that we don’t really notice as it’s lots of little things rather than one big event. That’s not to ignore any big stressful events but often those are things we can then deal with as we are so cognisant of them in and their impact on our overall health.

The smaller events that build without our conscious awareness are the one that could be considered the invisible stress loaders of everyday life. In this blog the area I want to focus on is the ‘Toxic Load’. The work has been done for you all you have to do is download the worksheet from here and you can calculate your own toxic load. Each item on the two lists are weighted so you can see what carries more weigh in the toll it takes on your health. This way you can then prioritise the items you want to work on first when trying to reduce your toxic load.

The reason these things take their toll on our body is because they need to be excreted from our body which places a great demand on the organs that are responsible for clearing them. The liver is the key organ in this process as are the kidneys. The liver really is the king of keeping your body safe and clear of toxins. Herbal supplements, chemicals, solvents, and alcohol are all possible causes of hepatotoxicity which is where the liver is over loaded. This pressure on the liver will mean it cannot do all of the many other jobs it needs to do like clear used sex hormones which end up being recycled in our bodies if we cannot clear them . We can then end up with higher levels than is ‘optimal’ for our health. This ‘load’ isn’t something we are aware of. Our brains and bodies are very clever as making compensations for us so we can continue to ‘survive’ which is our brains primary goal.

Symptoms may appear at certain points in our lives if we don’t do anything about this load and these are the ways in which our body communicates to us to tell us it is not coping well with the load we are placing upon it.

Symptoms

Energy levels are key indicators that our bodies are struggling. If we have more than a brief period of feeling like we don’t have the energy we used to it can be a sign. Weight gain can be another. If we are always stressed the cortisol tell tale signs from a weight gain point of view is around the stomach and chin. If the liver is the issue then weigh gain around the hips and pelvis are the tell tale sings of that. There are always signals that our bodies give off. The question is whether we are tuned in and prepared to listen.
