It’s fair to assume most PT’s today will provide a decent workout for you, tailored to your goals, some nutritional advice or guidance and some initial goal setting to ensure you're heading in the correct direction and can measure progress.
Some PT’s may go further than that and provide a more holistic approach with outside of session contact and ongoing mentoring suggesting other modalities as part of the overall programme - fine, but if they all do that what makes any of them different.
As our lives get busier more frantic less down time there is a need for shorter sharper workouts to enable us to ‘fit’ our exercise in! PT’s will come up with weird and wonderful ways to make sure this happens. But at what expense? Doesn’t this just wring us out even more, perhaps?
Where are we heading? What next? The PT of the future needs to consider the clients entire lifestyle to be able to create the best plan for that person. Not only will the PT of the future be looking at the outside but also the inside! The days of simply asking for family medical history and injury profile are numbered as our lives become more complex.
To look at the inside we need to be able to test for what’s going on that may affect our training results, our desired weight loss, our ability to build muscle or our cardiovascular fitness. Two examples of ways the PT of the future will be doing this is with Food Sensitivity Testing and also Adrenal Stress testing.
You may not know that you have a food sensitivity as it can take up to 3 days to reveal itself making it very hard to track back to the food that caused the issue. With a test you know definitively what food is causing you the issue. It may be making weight loss impossible, giving you other symptoms e.g. bloating, which make quality of life poorer. With the test results in place you can then eliminate the offending items until your body recovers and successfully move closer to your goals.
Similarly with your adrenals, you may not know that you have fatigue but if your body is constantly rushing, being fuelled by caffeine and high energy poor quality foods you may be making the issue worse not better. The Adrenal Stress Test will give you, again, definitive results as to the health of your adrenal glands, which considering their tiny size do SO much. The PT of the future will be able to get you tested and then coach you to a healthier future as part of the programme.
